A local business man and his wife were looking for a more comfortable, stable vessel than their previous 30ft monohull. Besides that, they were looking for a vessel with a reliable central heating system because of the weather conditions and a shallow draft to explore the thousands of bays and fiords in the Patagonian channels. Speed under sail and power was equally important.
We adapted the hull design and converted a thorough bred sailor into a decent motor sailor, by widening and lowering the stern section (hooked stern). Marfisa has an easily operated, highly efficient fractional rig with fully battened mainsail and roller furling headsails which enables shorthanded, easy sailing without compromising performance. Two medium weight diesels engines powering three bladed feathering propellers provide speeds up to 12kn and the much desired pinpoint manoeuvring.
At long range cruising speed of around 8 kn, she has a range of 300 miles under power. Combined with the capabilities of sailing at almost wind speed from 10 kn to 20 kn you have a cruise/exploration craft with no practical limit of range. This is a powerful but easily handled vessel with features normally only available on much larger powerboats and rarely seen on production yachts like two double cabins with full heads and shower, two single bunks for crew, water maker, electric winch, AC Generator and more. Whether offshore or dockside this is an impressive vessel for cruising, entertainment and recreation.
